The following is train of thought as it happened to me over Shabbat.
Captives being taken from us are mentioned twice in the Chumash. Once with Sdom and Lot and the other after Aharon’s passing. I wonder if there is a connection. I wonder if the King of Arad is hinted at.
וישמע הכנעני מלך ערד
So I open the Chumash to Breishit 14. That odd name, Kedorla’omer jumps at me.
So let’s see if Arad is in there. Sure enough it is there, backwards, with skipping letters.
כ ד ר ל ע מ ר
Ok, let’s check for Melech. Sure enough it’s also there, also backwards, also with some letter skipping.
כ ד ר ל ע מ ר
That’s amazing, but that leaves the reish at the end. Maybe that’s a hint to something else? Reish is Gematria of 200.
וישמע הכנעני
The Canaanite. Canaanite without the “the” is equal exactly 200.
Perhaps there is another meaning here for:
והכנעני אז בארץ
And keep in mind that Avram made Aliyah in 2023, spent a few months in Egypt per the Midrash, and then returned to the land of Canaan when he separated from Lot and then Lot was taken captive.
On what date in Av does Seder Olam say that the King of Arad attacked Israel in the 40th year while Israel was mourning the death of Aharon haKohen?
