Chumash Chronology Spreadsheet

I've put together a simple spreadsheet with the chronology as it develops in the Chumash, showing the generations from Adam HaRishon until Yaakov Avinu, and then Galut Mitzraim.  Admittedly, the length of Galut Mitzraim is not explicit from the Mikra as is the rest of the spreadsheet.

You can view it here.

Things to note:

  • The count is according to Seder Olam Rabba
  • Each person is born in year # 0.  I.e. year 100 for Avraham Avinu is year 0 for Yitzchak Avinu.  The problem with this: Adam HaRishon would therefore be born in year 0, whereas our count is with Adam HaRishon being born in year 2.

Comprehensive Timeline

There are numerous posts on this blog which attempt to classify the years of our generation according to different ideas. I've put the majority of them together in one place, which will hopefully facilitate easier study.

The spreasheet spans 5708 to 5795, and has a different column for each idea. Row 2 of each column has a link to the appropriate blog post.

It's not the most attractive spreadsheet, but it contains much data.

Here it is.

2503 Parallels

If we take the theory I presented regarding 2503 years to its conclusion, then let us try to apply it in a micro-scale to the compare the end of the original 2503 years with the end of the 2503 years of Galut.*

* I say Galut, but as mentioned before, I mean time without the Beit HaMikdash since Yetziat Mitzraim.

Let us keep in mind that Shmitah and Yovel starts in Tishrei, whereas the other events took place in Nissan. That is to say that Yehoshua led Am Yisrael in to Eretz Yisrael in Nissan, so the 7 years of conquering and division were counted from Nissan.

The parallel seems to be that the 7 years of conquering start between Nissan 5768 and Nissan 5769, akin to what is written here. No, I am not implying that there are 7 years of conquering and war that are about to erupt. The end of the 7 years of conquering and the beginning of 7 years of division aligns with 5775/5776, i.e. the Yovel, which is rather fitting as well.

I have made it in to a basic spreadsheet here.

The 7 Sefirot in Sefer Yetzirah

The following is a chart showing the GR"A's version / approach regarding the 4th chapter of Sefer Yetzirah. It is in Hebrew. It shows the Sefirot associated with the days of the week. I also copied the accompanying luminary-list from the weekly hour chart.

Birkat HaChamah - 84 Year Cycle

I have updated the Birkat HaChamah chart to show all of the relevant cycles:

  • The 28 year cycle of the Sun
  • The 21 year cycle of the Moon
  • The 84 year cycle of the Sun and Moon combined.

There are three sheets to the spreadsheet. You can find it here.

Lag BaOmer of History

If we look at a list of Yovel years from the time of Ezra, we can see that the 33rd Yovel period is related to Kabbalah. Also, if we take the 6000 years and divide in to 50 parts of 120 years, we get a similar result.

33rd 120 Year Cycle - 3841-3960 (81-200CE)

  • This was the period in which the secrets of Torah were revealed by Rebbi Shimon Bar Yochai

33rd Yovel Cycle - 4992 - 5041 (1232-1281)

  • This was the period in which the secrets of Torah were published in the Zohar

Here it is in a spreadsheet.

Birkat HaChamah - Charts

(Make sure to read all posts on Birkat HaChamah here)

In order to visualize the math behind Birkat HaChamah, please see these two charts.
  1. The Jewish Week - During a year that has Birkat HaChamah, Tekufat Nissan falls in hour 73 of the week, and advances 30 hours later in the week every following year. See this chart to see the make up of the week and the division in to hours. There are two sheets here to help visualize.
  2. Birkat HaChamah Cycle - After you have seen how the week is set up, this chart shows the resulting hour occurances of Tekufat Nissan in a 28 year cycle. I've put in color-coding to indicate the 4 year cycles mentioned in Rashi and Pirkei D'Rebbi Eliezer as well as the 7 year cycle.

Comments are welcome.

Yovel Spreadsheet

(For more on the subject of Yovel, click here to return to the Table of Contents.)

In honor of this weeks parshah, Behar, which discusses Shmitah and Yovel, I have put together a spreadsheet detailing the proposal I made here to combine the 50 year and 49 year cycles of Rabbanan and Rebbi Yehudah. The spreadsheet details Yovel and Shmitah counting from the time of Yehoshua until the next Yovel year in 5776. Yovel years are highlighted across. 50 year and 49 year cycles are highlighted in different shades of green. Google Docs is not quite as easy to use and much slower than Microsoft Excel, as such, please don't make any requests of me to add stuff in to this, but let me know if you find mistakes.

Here it is.

Updated - I have also added a second sheet to the spreadsheet with just the Yovel years.
